Use our tools to assess your skills, plan your learning, and grow your career in adult social care. The Care Workforce Pathway supports ongoing development at every stage, from new starters to registered managers.

These resources help individuals who work in adult social care, or are considering a career in the sector, to think about their skills, understand learning opportunities and plan their career development.

If you’re thinking about working in care for the first time, the pathway will give you a clear understanding of the foundational skills and knowledge that you’ll need to perform your job well. You don’t need to have all the skills and knowledge before you start, but your employer should help you develop these things.

For those further along in their career, it shows how you can expand your skill set, move into supervisory roles, or even specialise in areas like dementia care. It will help you recognise where your strengths are and where you might want to improve. It’s not just about getting qualifications but about broadening the knowledge and skills that mean you’ll be able to provide better care.

At each stage, workers can engage in the recommended learning and development opportunities that align with the specific needs of their role.

These resources can be used for your own personal benefit, or in conversations with your line manager or HR team.

Skills assessments

Explore the knowledge, skills, values, and behaviours outlined in the Care Workforce Pathway, and have a conversation with your manager to identify your strengths and areas for growth. Together, you can plan learning and development opportunities that build on your strengths and support areas where further development is needed.
